'Balance' is a hand-forged kinetic sculpture that explores the interplay between balance and geometry.
The central three components balance upon one another and are able to spin on a central axis, either propelled by hand or by the wind. In turn, these movements and realignments can alter the 'balance' of the composition.
Crafted from steel with a galvanised finish, the sculpture uses a combination of traditional blacksmithing methods and contemporary fabrication techniques.
Engineered to withstand standard UK weather conditions, it is an ideal garden sculpture.

The work has exhibited at sculpture shows including Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden (Surrey), Canwood Art Gallery (Herefordshire), Fresh Air Sculpture Show (Gloucestershire).

‘Aeolus’ is a series of sound sculptures that are played by the wind. The sculpture's sound is produced by the wind creating a series of harmonic tones as it blows across the strings, agitating them.
Based upon the Ancient Greek concept of the Aeolian Harp, the Aeolus sculptures are designed as tools for reflection and are intended to be used as a medium for the audience to connect to nature and their environment.
The instruments are hand forged, using traditional blacksmithing methods in combination with contemporary fabrication. They are accompanied by a hand forged steel 'slide' to play up and down the strings, allowing the user to play the instrument together with the wind.

The ‘Big Bonkers’ Mobile Musical Contraption project is an Arts Council funded Herefordshire community project, intended to engage young people in using recycled materials to make art and music and to highlight better care for our environment.
I was commissioned to design and build the mobile musical contraption, which will go on to do a tour of local schools, carnivals and events.
The mechanism of the contraption works similarly to a traditional music box, only much bigger and pedal powered! In more detail, the music machine has a central sequencer with 8 disks attached, which each have 16 holes in them. By putting bolts through the equidistant holes of the disks you can programme different codes and rhythms. Once the disks are spinning, they interact with a series of sprung levers that act as the beaters for the drums and percussion instruments... and Voila, a cacophony of sound. There are a huge range of combinations that can be programmed to create all kinds of rhythm and music.
